Flat Design has become a popular trend for app and website designs as of late. People seem to either love it or hate it, and it definitely isn't a style that works for all applications and websites. There are many benefits to flat design, such as simplicity and minimalism that makes for a certain ease of use. For some applications, flat design may be too simple, which is when we see semi-flat or flexible flat design that features slight drop shadows or gradients to add that little extra 'something' to the design.
Many have argued that flat web design is just efficient design -- that it's a way of making the user experience much more friendly. We've compiled some inspiring examples of flat design from creative portfolios and useful apps for your inspiration, as well as a break down of the elements of flat design to help you better understand flat design that works and converts.

Developed by paint and painting supplies retailer Sherwin Williams, the ColorSnap Glass app lets wearers snap a picture of anything wherever they go for design inspiration. The app matches paint with the colors derived from the snapped photos, so users can go out and capture color inspiration before painting their room the same color.
The Glassware turns real-world colors into paint color swatches. After capturing an image, a variety of color recommendations are quickly offered, as well as directions to the closest Sherwin Williams store. You can explore paint colors, view individual color details and will soon be able to share results with friends. You can check out the app in action in the video below:
Everyone used to photography techniques knows how hard it's make double exposure photographies without digital edition. I actually don't know with these photos from Taylor Allen received a digital editing, anyway, they just caught my attention at first glance.
Illustrating with basic linework not only results in some really cool artwork, it also makes the job a lot easier! Instead of painstakingly drawing every detail, simplifying the object into its basic form and using just a single stroke weight produces a stylised pictogram effect. In this tutorial I’ll take you through the process of using this basic linework technique to create a cool motorcycle illustration. The motorcycle illustration we’ll be creating is actually based on the custom motorcycle project I’ve been working on in real life. To create the illustration, every feature of the reference photograph is simplified and drawn using the most basic of shapes and lines to produce the stylish pictogram effect.

Game of Thrones is without doubt one of the most interesting shows of the decade. With millions of fans worldwide, the series based on the novels of George R.R. Martin inspired many people to create amazing art. One of them is digital artist Mike Wrobel, a really talented designer who decided to recreate the universe of Westeros in a unique and really creative way! The artist started from a simple question: How would Game of Thrones look like if the action would be set in a contemporary period such as the 80s or 90s? What if the swords, bows, spears and armors would be replaced with NES guns, bats and tracksuits? So he started reimagining all the characters fighting for the throne in a gangsta, hip-hop era. And the result is amazing.

His distinctively-styled portraits of some of the world's most famous personalities have been featured in numerous museums, and his paintings for Canada's Expo '67 and the 1976 Olympics brought him worldwide fame. McNeely's paintings of Golda Meir, Muhammed Ali and Cardinal Leger have been proudly featured in books about these great world leaders, and they have won McNeely lasting acclaim. Other works include stunning portraits of celebrities from the 1950s like Elvis, Marilyn Monroe and James Dean, as well as noted American composers, conductors and folk singers. He has also created spectacular paintings featuring Diana, Princess of Wales. Via http://www.unicover.com/
