Coursera offers free, online courses to people around the world, but if you live in Minnesota, company officials are urging you to log off or head for the border.

The state’s Office of Higher Education has informed the popular provider of massive open online courses, or MOOC’s, that Coursera is unwelcome in the state because it never got permission to operate there. It’s unclear how the law could be enforced when the content is freely available on the Web, but Coursera updated its Terms of Service...

The University of Minnesota Rochester (www.r.umn.edu) invites applications for an open-rank, tenure-track faculty position with expertise in Biology for its degree program, the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS). This program provides education and experiential learning for students interested broadly in the health sector. The successful candidate will take a leading role in designing and delivering the biology curriculum, integrating biology across other disciplines, developing research and education opportunities for undergraduate students interested in biology-related careers in the health care sector, and developing expertise in the scholarship of learning. All BSHS students take an Integrative Biology course in the second semester, followed by a year-long course in Anatomy & Physiology. The successful candidate is expected to participate in the design and delivery of these courses. In addition, the successful candidate has expertise in at least one additional area where the following courses are offered: Microbiology; Immunology; Advanced Topics in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Genetics.
