Though it’s been designed primarily for 3D gaming VR, it can also do things like controlling aerial camera drones. Clearly in the near future there are going to be some passive film viewing applications for the Oculus

“What’s exciting about it, I feel like we’re in 1927 when sound was first being introduced,” The Mission’s director Matthew Gratzner told Gizmodo, “but what you have to realize is that you don’t really have the ability to do coverage. In other words, you’re looking 360 degrees so every time you’re shooting something you have to be aware of someone or something you could see in the background [that shouldn't be there]. There is no ‘behind the camera’.”

Other art forms aren't as well equipped for data-infused criticism. “Art historians already have trouble writing about digital art forms because their usual descriptors don’t work anymore,” says author and media theorist Dr. Charlotte Frost.

Human extinction warning from Oxford

Human extinction warning from Oxford | Machinimania | Scoop.it

What are the greatest global threats to humanity? Are we on the verge of our own unexpected extinction?

An international team of scientists, mathematicians and philosophers at Oxford University's Future of Humanity Institute is investigating the biggest dangers.

And they argue in a research paper, Existential Risk as a Global Priority, that international policymakers must pay serious attention to the reality of species-obliterating risks.

Last year there were more academic papers published on snowboarding than human extinction.

The Swedish-born director of the institute, Nick Bostrom, says the stakes couldn't be higher. If we get it wrong, this could be humanity's final century.

Though a little scary, they're also pretty cool, aren't they?

If we like it or not, this is the future. We won't need earphones again. We won't misplace our keys - Its almost magic or to some, a nightmare coming through.

I don't like it, do you???
