Vin Diesel cast in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ due to social media?

Vin Diesel cast in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ due to social media? | Machinimania | Scoop.it

Henrik Safegaard - Cloneartist's insight:

If you’re a fan of the Fast and Furious actor, you’re well aware that he has a whopping 83.6 million Facebook fans. If that doesn’t impress you, it should. He has more likes than any other actor on the planet and is very in touch with his fans – something studios would be very interested in using to their advantage to increase a movie’s exposure.

Joshua Nealey:  "Guardians of the Galaxy has been a success for Marvel and Vin Diesel’s character Groot is a hit. Was he cast because of his massive social media presence?"

Henrik Safegaard - Cloneartist's insight:

It's normal to be anxious about the digital permanence of your activity on social media, but according to this film, we might have a lot more to fear from Snapchat messages that disappear forever.

In James Corbett's six-minute Murder On Snapchat, the app that deletes your messages seconds after they're sent is used to commit the perfect crime. It's creepy and dark, and feels like it could totally happen.

Aliens disguised as moustaches are turning humans into zombies! Got your attention?

That’s the idea behind the upcoming social film series presented by Intel and Toshiba, and other brands want in.

The film won’t be coming to theatres near you. Instead, you’ll be able to watch it on Facebook and online over the next couple of weeks.

“We are always looking at new ways to engage and entertain consumers in a brand experience – in particular younger consumers – and this idea is a great way to do that,” says Billie Goldman, Partner Marketing Manager at Intel.

Facebook Is Going To Ruin Your News Feed With Auto-Playing Video Ads

Facebook Is Going To Ruin Your News Feed With Auto-Playing Video Ads | Machinimania | Scoop.it

In Facebook's quest to generate more revenue, it's going to muck up your News Feed with auto-playing videos, the FT reports.

Facebook is set to launch video advertising in its newsfeed in July...

Henrik Safegaard - Cloneartist's insight:

Oh no. That woudn't be a good idea. It would be terrible.

Sage Osterfeld's curator insight, May 8, 2013 11:45 AM

Facebook taking a queue from porn sites. Great.

Is there anything more annoying that an autoplaying ad that you don't care about ruining whatever it is you're doing? Every time I run across one, it's usually below the scroll where I can see it so I'm like, "where the hell is that noise coming from?" (Then I scroll down and find the ad playing, right click on it and use my Ad Block plugin to keep that server from ever showing me an ad again.)

Elliottsweb's curator insight, May 23, 2013 10:49 AM

Oh no! Not more auto-playing ads!

Facebook Asks You To Please Select Your Emotion | TechCrunch

Facebook Asks You To Please Select Your Emotion | TechCrunch | Machinimania | Scoop.it

It could make us more willing to express how we feel. Or you could say it over-simplies our complex moods and lives. But today the Facebook status update box began offering the option to “share how you’re feeling or what you’re doing” through a drop-down menu of emoticons and media. We’re entering a more structured era of communication, where both friends and big data know exactly how we tick.

Facebook began testing the new sharing options in January, but only released screenshots. Now it appears the feature has been given to a much wider audience. It’s likely the beginning of a global or at least US or English language rollout. I’ve contacted Facebook for details. Most mentions I’ve seen of the feature have been from the US, and many note the similarity to an old Myspace mood sharing option.

Just one of the many ways to share over social media; Facebook allows members to share how they are feeling, what they are listening to or watching to their Facebook friends or if the profile is public than anyone has access to see what you as a member are wanting to share with the internet world.

How to clear your Facebook search history

How to clear your Facebook search history | Machinimania | Scoop.it

How to clear your Facebook search history

Can you lose your Facebook Page because you didn't follow the rules? Facebook would never shut down a Page because they ran a contest and did something like... oh, I don't know, maybe offer to donate a dollar to charity for every Like their Page gets... right?

I'm constantly seeing people saying they've never heard of a Page being shut down for violating a rule and that Facebook doesn't enforce most of them anyway. Well, here are two examples of some popular Pages that were shut down by Facebook for some seemingly innocent contest rule violations. Think it's okay to do it just because you see the big dogs doing it? Think again.

Facebook rolls out the ability to manage pages from mobile apps

Facebook rolls out the ability to manage pages from mobile apps | Machinimania | Scoop.it

For anybody who manages a Facebook page, the big challenge has always been doing so from a mobile device... amazing [note mg]

Managing Facebook pages from mobile devices has been a tricky challenge for page admins, but thankfully Facebook has just started testing an app that will make their lives easier. It’s called Facebook Pages Manager and it is available in the app store now for some countries and is rolling out to everyone in the next few days.

This is an interesting move as it seems to be part of a wider strategy by Facebook to launch individual apps for specific features on the site instead of trying to pack all their features and services into one main app. This new app allows you to log in as your actual page rather than trying to access it through your own personal app, which had caused major confusion for users in the past. This was especially true for those in the unfortunate position to be managing several Facebook pages.

7 Tips To Maximize Shares of Your Facebook Posts

7 Tips To Maximize Shares of Your Facebook Posts | Machinimania | Scoop.it

Facebook recently changed the way users interact with content on fan pages: any user, including non-fans, can now post on fan page walls and like/comment/share fan page content. In other words, a Facebook user does not have to first like your fan page before they can interact with your content. This is a good thing!

Since this change, the emphasis has shifted slightly from gaining more likes (fans) to increasing the number of shares on each piece of content. When you craft your fan page updates in a manner that naturally inspires fans and their friends and visitors to your page to share with their networks, you set in motion ripples of viral visibility. Basically, free additional exposure...
