How NOT To Pitch Your Infographic

How NOT To Pitch Your Infographic | Infographics and Social Media | Scoop.it

I love good infographics. And as the person who considers which third-party infographics we run, I appreciate a good pitch, one that demonstrates that someone is aware of what our site is about, what’s appropriate for us and doesn’t take a cookie cutter approach.

That’s a good pitch. Here’s a bad one that I received yesterday through the Marketing Land contact form:

"I came across your blog and I have been following for a little bit now. I have enjoyed your articles and think they are very informative. I would like to pass along an infographic describing the growth of social media marketing and how careers within the field are growing.

I know how you get several infographic submissions a week and they amount to a sales pitches, however, this is just not one of those. I think you will be able to use this on your website and have great feedback from your readers....."

All Eyes on Data and Content at New South Digital | Infographics and Social Media | Scoop.it

I recently attended the New South Digital Marketing Conference in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on behalf of the GinzaMetrics team. Here's some of the advice we picked up.

Become a data guru: Only about 20 percent of companies are actually making decisions based on data, and the rest are flying by the seat of their pants. Learn & document: Determine if your efforts are successful and understand why or why not.Become automatic: Once you’ve started testing and learning, you will know what metrics yield results. Master targeting: Targeting can help place the right experience before customers at the right time.

But Would Your Grandma Use Tumblr?

But Would Your Grandma Use Tumblr? | Infographics and Social Media | Scoop.it

A big part of what made Facebook reach IPO stage was the arrival of grandparents, aunts, uncles, teachers and yes, parents. Passing the “grandma test,” which pushed Facebook to over a billion users, is probably the key to Tumblr’s future. So, will Grandma use it? I tend to think not. At least not as many as those who joined Facebook, or at least not right away. Why? There are some inherent barriers. The idea of “blogging,” even when it is as simplified and dare I say enjoyable as Tumblr can make it, can still be highly intimidating to people who are less “computer savvy.” With Facebook, you sign up, add your friends, and then see what they are doing. It’s simple. With Tumblr, there is still the impression that you are actually starting a blog, which of course comes with perceived technical hurdles such as setting up a template/design for your “site.” Sometimes those perceived technical hurdles can be as deadly as real ones.

Infographic: What Drives Social Media Searches and Engagement? | Infographics and Social Media | Scoop.it

As it turns out, social media and search go hand-in-hand...

From Facebook and Twitter, to Pinterest and MySpace (yes, it still exists), social media users are often on the search for… something.

For marketers, understanding the searches that lead to improved engagement is critical.

To that end, Azntaiji Multimedia and SocialRadius have produced a new infographic highlighting exactly what so many of us are searching for.

Reddit's new multireddit feature brings a massive change to its front page

Reddit's new multireddit feature brings a massive change to its front page | Infographics and Social Media | Scoop.it

It’s been years since community news sharing site Reddit has made a major change to how things appear on its coveted front page of popular submissions, but today the company announced a new feature called multireddits that could do just that.

Reddit enables its users to submit links or self-authored posts to a variety of “subreddits” (aka a specific category). The multireddit feature enables you to combine several of those subreddits together, which can then be subscribed to on its own. It’s worth noting that the capability to create a multireddit has been around for a while (manually typing each subreddit’s name in the URL), but now the Reddit team is making it easier to share and browse through them. Previously, if you wanted this kind of functionality, you’d have to create another user account and subscribe to only the subreddits you wanted to collect or create a new folder of content on iOS app AlienBlue.

“We’re working on making browsing reddit easier and more diverse,” Reddit developer Max Goodman (aka chromakode) wrote about the new feature. “The first step is giving you deeper control over what makes up your front page.”

Google Glass is for Dorks — And Doctors

Google Glass is for Dorks — And Doctors | Infographics and Social Media | Scoop.it

From Dylan Tweney:

Google Glass is one of the most polarizing user-interface inventions to come along in decades.

We'll have a chance to see just how polarizing this week when thousands of developers crowd into the Moscone Center in San Francisco for Google I/O, the tech giant's sixth annual developer conference. Since Glass just started shipping to its earliest adopters, Google I/O will probably have the highest concentration of Google Glass wearers anywhere to date. That means we'll have plenty of opportunity to watch people struggle with its interface -- and to watch bystanders' reactions. Expect lots of photos of Glass-wearing nerds to pop up in your usual media streams.

On the one hand, Google Glass users look like the Borg, creeping us out as they stare into a digital middle distance that no one else can see. It also raises troubling privacy implications, since it can be used to take photos and video almost surreptitiously.

On the other hand, the device is undoubtedly a harbinger of technologies to come that are even more integrated into our bodies.

The question now is: How do we make the most of this invention without making ourselves look like complete dorks?

6 case studies & infographics: the optimal time to send emails

6 case studies & infographics: the optimal time to send emails | Infographics and Social Media | Scoop.it

Email has the potential to deliver a strong ROI for marketers, though the precise response rates depend on a number of factors including the subject line, type of offers and the time of day the email is sent.

The best way of accurately finding the optimal time of day to send your emails is to run tests, taking into account fluctuations around pay day and annual events such as Christmas and bank holidays.

According to the Econsultancy/Adestra Email Marketing Industry Census 2013 only half of businesses (49%) are currently testing the time and day of their email messages, so either the other 51% already know the optimum time or they're working off a hunch.

So to give some food for thought on where to start looking and testing, here are six case studies and infographics that look at the best time and day of the week to send emails...

Why Email Subscribers Unsubscribe [INFOGRAPHIC]

Why Email Subscribers Unsubscribe [INFOGRAPHIC] | Infographics and Social Media | Scoop.it
One of the most important things that you can do to drive repeat sales is to create an email list (at least according to this study). One of the huge advantages of email is that most businesses achieve about a 20% open rate on email and a .3% opt-out rate. Compare that to social media and email has a huge advantage, not to mention it is much more likely to be the last touch prior to sale. Email closes if you do it right. This is a great infographic on why email subscribers leave and why they stay. I would add one best practice: consider giving them something. Coupon, discount, widget – little drives people to act than a good incentive or a deal. Let me know your thoughts on this one!

I don´t think you need a blog, I think is good to have a blog. The important thing is not the blog itself, the important thing is the message you want to give using it; the, you can give the message using the blog, but, you can give the same message directly, using social networks and plain text messages (without links). Many customers don´t want click, want the message.

4 Ways Content Curation Can Help your Business

4 Ways Content Curation Can Help your Business | Infographics and Social Media | Scoop.it

I’ve become a big fan of content curation in the last year or two. It’s one way that site or business owners can build a community around their brands as well as develop a reputation as a “thought leader” on a subject. Many people, however, aren’t familiar with it. When people ask, I tell them, with so much information on the web these days, people want to see content about a topic, but curated by someone whose opinion they respect. Content curation sites allow for this.

A large group of these sites has popped into existence in recent years. One way or another, they allow people or businesses to gather all their favorite blog posts, news stories, pictures or videos in one topic and store them in one place on an ongoing basis. I like to use one called Scoop.it for the majority of my content curation. I manage topics on startups, cities, the future and other subjects.

How Social Media Impacts SEO and Site Ranking: infographic

How Social Media Impacts SEO and Site Ranking: infographic | Infographics and Social Media | Scoop.it

Search engine optimization has not been dependent on a minimal number of factors for a long time now, such as number of times a keyword appeared on a page, and it continues to become a more complex web of on and off-page factors every month. One of the more recent factors that has had an impact on search ranking is social media.

This infographic breaks down ways that social media influences the visibility of your website in search results, including:

Social media can help search engines find and index your content faster Likes, shares, retweets, etc. indicates to search engine that content is new and interesting, often leading to a temporary increase in rankingsYour content will increase in search results for people connected to youIncreases domain authority and the number of inbound links to your website

Venkatesh - if I am able I give my site as much media support as I can. As a social media trainer I need to 'try out' media before I can teach others to use it and give an insight into which is useful and which is not. So I tend to put my site and what I am doing out on the various social media platforms at least twice a day - I don't over emphasise my site because that can be counter productive (people switch off if all they see from you is self-promotion) and so it is keeping your presence alive but not switching off potential clients by constant ME, ME, ME. I perform both SEO services and social media training for others (see - just a bit of self promotion LOL)

This infographic is a great way to depict many of the articles I've previously pointed out that cover SEO and social media. It is almost easier to explain the relationship in an image format, especially for those who don't have a background in SEO.

There are many other factors that go into how much social media truly affects SEO, so there is more to be explained after this. But this is a great introductory image. It also emphasizes the speed with which social media makes an impact.

Tesla Stock Soars After Big Earnings and Car Sales

Tesla Stock Soars After Big Earnings and Car Sales | Infographics and Social Media | Scoop.it
Tesla shares hit another new high after stronger than expected earnings.
John Boitnott's insight:

From Scott Budman at http://nbcbayarea.com

Tesla is for real.

If you had any doubts, just look to Wall Street this morning. Shares of Tesla Motors stock (TSLA) have soared about 25 percent so far this morning. Over the last couple of months, the share price has doubled, adding close to four billion dollars to its market value.

Even more impressively (at least for me, a non stock holder), look at your local roadways. Teslas are everywhere these days. They're outselling The Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf, despite the fact that the Model S is much more expensive. What was at first a trickle of Teslas in the wild has become a steady stream.

According to the company's latest earning report, Tesla sold 4,900 cars over the last three months, with sales expected to pick up even more steam in the month ahead. Net income for the quarter was $11.2 million dollars, sharply up from the $89.9 million dollar loss recorded the year before.

On top of all that, Consumer Reports just published a very favorable review, giving the Model S a 99 out of a possible 100 rating. Yowza. This from the magazine that couldn't bring itself to recommend the iPhone 5.

There are, of course, future roadblocks in the way for Tesla. But recently, at least, this company has done just about everything right, and it's being richly rewarded.
