Ten Reasons People Resist Change

Ten Reasons People Resist Change | business analyst | Scoop.it

Leadership is about change, but what is a leader to do when faced with ubiquitous resistance? Resistance to change manifests itself in many ways, from foot-dragging and inertia to petty sabotage to outright rebellions. The best tool for leaders of change is to understand the predictable, universal sources of resistance in each situation and then strategize around them. Here are the ten I've found to be the most common.

This is an interesting article which shares about ten reasons people can resist change. This is applicable for social change i believe. The reason being is that resisting change can be due to multiple of reasons. Therefore, there could be different reasons why certain people weren't interested in participating in the social change of the ALS bucket challenge. Resistance can often begin with the beliefs or the perspectives of the individual, as people wouldn't want to do something if it has no meaning or purpose to themselves. This article highlights some main aspects to why people resist change. In addition the major factors which i think relates to people resisting the ALS challenge are everything is different, concerns about competence and the fact that it will be more work. The attitudes can be birthed from fear of entering into pain or a place of uncomforted or even anxiety of whether it will be an embarrassment or humiliation.
