Information literacy skill acquisition is a form of learning that is influencedby cognitive, emotional, and social processes. This research studied howtwo emotional constructs (emotional intelligence and dispositional affect)and two cognitive constructs (motivation and coping skills) interacted withstudents’ information literacy scores. Two studies were carried out with agroup of undergraduate students. Correlation and regression analysesrevealed that emotional intelligence and motivation significantly predictedstudents’ information literacy scores. Instruction librarians may considerincorporating greater awareness of the emotional and cognitive aspectsof information literacy skill acquisition in their instructional content anddelivery.
