Week in Review: Where Art Meets Tech | Best of Design Art, Inspirational Ideas for Designers and The Rest of Us | Scoop.it
Lindsey Davis's insight:

This week it seemed like nearly all of our Design Inspirations had something to do with tech -- whether it's social media, selfies or web design. We found a tattoo inspired by code, and many helpful articles on acheiving perfection on your website.

Perhaps one of the most interesting design inspirations came from artist Lorna Barnshaw, who turned her selfies into 3-D printed sculptures that brought some unsettling results.

Pop culture made an apperance in Design Taxi's article about the artist who recreated the Star Wars series from memory on a single sheet of paper.

We also have a lot of interesting news about web design, including tips for acheiving the simplicity and elegance on your website, and an interactive infographic on how the web and its design has developed since its creation.

Oscar-winning studios Breakthru Films and Trademark Films created the world’s first feature-length painted animation “Loving Vincent“, isnpired by the life and controversial death of renowned artist Vincent Van Gogh. The story is told by his paintings and by the characters that inhabit them.

“Every frame in the Loving Vincent movie is an oil painting on canvas, using the very same technique in which Vincent himself painted.

The intrigue unfolds through interviews with the characters closest to Vincent and through dramatic reconstructions of the events leading up to his death.

Loving Vincent features over one hundred and twenty of Vincent Van Gogh’s greatest paintings. The plot, drawn from the 800 letters written by the painter himself, lead us to the significant people and events in the time leading up to his unexpected death.”

Cristina Gevorgyan's insight:

Incredible Paintings by Adam Lupton

Incredible Paintings by Adam Lupton | Best of Design Art, Inspirational Ideas for Designers and The Rest of Us | Scoop.it

Adam Lupton's broad and wide-ranging interests provides the root of his visually artistic ideation. Having a keen interest in sociology and psychology, he combines his passion for popular culture, typography, philosophy, science/religion, and society to form the basis of his descriptive works. Lupton's gaze revolves around contemporary culture and the nuances that 'modern' life brings.

Lupton's design work balances on the idea of effective communication and purposeful aesthetics, and that from the ground up everything should be started with a solid concept. Lupton's processes lean heavily towards idea generation and conceptualization: things start out through the hand, ideas converge and diverge, and the outcome is more than what it is – it creates an experience for the user, a connection. His diverse background gives him the ability to straddle and draw upon the two slightly neurotic worlds of visual art and design.

Cristina Gevorgyan's insight:

Erwin Blumenfeld (1897 – 1969) was a famous American photographer of German origin. In the 1930s, he published collages mocking Adolf Hitler. In 1936, he emigrated to Paris. With the German occupation, he was interned in a concentration camp in 1940 because he was Jewish. In 1941, he could escape to the USA.In the 1940s and 1950s he became famous for his fashion photography, working for Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, and also for artistic nude photography. In the 1960s, he worked on his autobiography which found no publisher because it was considered to be too ironic towards society, and was published only after his death.
Early in his career he was involved with the Berlin Dadaist group that was important as the First World War ground to an end. He worked in photography in Amsterdam and by the 1930‘s was gaining a reputation for his experimental nude studies. The work he is most highly praised for are his surreal images that were highly influenced by Dadaism and the Surrealist movement.

The idea is already there in the mind, all the elements required to convey that idea is setup up an then that perfect photograph conveying the concept, big or small, comes alive. Many a times, computers are used to give the picture its final touch, but still many photographers prefer the old style in getting the real life on to the camera. A Different Game of Thrones in a Hip-Hop, Gangsta Era | Gods of Art | Best of Design Art, Inspirational Ideas for Designers and The Rest of Us | Scoop.it

Game of Thrones is without doubt one of the most interesting shows of the decade. With millions of fans worldwide, the series based on the novels of George R.R. Martin inspired many people to create amazing art. One of them is digital artist Mike Wrobel, a really talented designer who decided to recreate the universe of Westeros in a unique and really creative way!

The artist started from a simple question: How would Game of Thrones look like if the action would be set in a contemporary period such as the 80s or 90s? What if the swords, bows, spears and armors would be replaced with NES guns, bats and tracksuits? So he started reimagining all the characters fighting for the throne in a gangsta, hip-hop era. And the result is amazing.
