Graphic Design Inspiration - Animals from History

Graphic Design Inspiration - Animals from History | Best of Design Art, Inspirational Ideas for Designers and The Rest of Us | Scoop.it

"This week’s graphic design inspiration highlights the work of Christina Hess and her Animals From History illustration series. Christina studied illustration at the University of the Arts and since then, has worked as an illustrator and designer. She likes to draw and paint ornate things, which meant eventually she would have stumbled on the Animals from History idea displayed below and we’re glad that she did."

Lindsey Davis's insight:

These illustrations show cats and dogs as they would have appeared in art history. Dogs dressed up as pirates and cats as queens makes for an adorable series that are somehow both realistic and silly all at once.

Lori Wilk's curator insight, January 27, 2014 11:57 AM

The theme for today is "Be Inspired."

NY artist draws picture stories to make us think - The Times of Israel | Best of Design Art, Inspirational Ideas for Designers and The Rest of Us | Scoop.it
The Times of Israel NY artist draws picture stories to make us think The Times of Israel He has since written and drawn a graphic novel titled, “The Jew of New York,” a collection of stories “The Cardboard Valise,” and written several works for...
Lindsey Davis's insight:

Comic strips aren't just funnies anymore. NY artist Ben Katchor has turned them into works of art. His offbeat "picture stories" poignently recounts life as a Jewish man in today's New York, and even though they're definitely funny, there's more sarcasm and depth to behold.

Week in Review: Pets as Inspiration | Best of Design Art, Inspirational Ideas for Designers and The Rest of Us | Scoop.it
Lindsey Davis's insight:

This week we brought you all sorts of design inspiration, but our favorites involved our furry best friends: cats and dogs.

But first, we got into some geographical design inspiration with Buzzfeed's map of the USA's favorite cocktails:

Next up, our furry favorites! These sculptures depict all sorts of dog breeds but they're all made out of bicycle chains. Somehow they still manage to look realistic:

And our favorite of the week, dogs and cats take a tour through art history in this illustration series. Steve Jobs becomes a cat and dogs fight in the Crusades.

Amazingly Realistic Dog Sculptures Created From Bicycle Chains

Amazingly Realistic Dog Sculptures Created From Bicycle Chains | Best of Design Art, Inspirational Ideas for Designers and The Rest of Us | Scoop.it

"Israeli sculptress Nirit Levav Packer creates amazingly realistic dog sculptures out of bicycle parts.

Using bicycle chains, she fashions remarkably detailed sculptures of dog breeds such as Yorkshire Terriers, Beagles, Afghan Hounds, and Dalmatians that are just as cute and cuddly as their real life counterparts."

Lindsey Davis's insight:

Bicycle chains don't look exactly like dog's fur, but Israeli artist Nirit Levav Packer must have thought the two had something in common. She creates beautiful sculptures of dogs using the bicycle's parts, and they look remarkably realistic despite their uncommon material.
